Alternatives to ProperSoft

Five tools convert PDF bank statements into something your accounting software will take. They are priced on different axes and built for different people, so the useful question is not which is best — it is which one matches why you are leaving.

First, why are you looking?

ProperSoft is desktop conversion software, sold as credits rather than a subscription. Long-established, with a tool per format. The reason people move off it is usually one of three, and each points somewhere different.

  • Price

Their best published rate works out at about $0.110 a page. Compare that against your actual monthly page count rather than against a headline plan price — the gap is usually widest at low volumes.

  • A format they do not export

QFX for Quicken, IIF for QuickBooks Desktop, QIF, OFX or Tally XML. Several tools here publish only CSV, Excel and QBO, and no amount of accuracy helps if the file will not import.

  • Trusting the output

Extraction is imperfect everywhere. What differs is what happens next — whether a tool checks its own work against the statement’s balances and shows you which row failed, or hands you a spreadsheet and wishes you luck.

The other options

Including the ones that compete with us. If one of these fits you better, it is better for you to find that out here than after a month of paying us.

DocuClipper

The established leader in this category, and the most expensive. Broad product, long track record, strong reviews.

Suits you if: Choose DocuClipper if your catch-up work is mostly scanned statements you want processed in bulk, or if buying from an established vendor with years of public reviews matters more to you than price.

Documentric

The closest competitor to what we are building — newer than DocuClipper, priced well below it, and already ranking.

Suits you if: Choose Documentric if your bank is covered by one of their pages and not by ours, or if CSV, Excel and QBO are the only formats you will ever need.

MoneyThumb

Long-established conversion tools billed per conversion rather than per page, with a strong presence among lenders.

Suits you if: Choose MoneyThumb if you are underwriting loans and want tooling built around cash-flow analysis, or if you convert so rarely that per-conversion pricing is simplest.

bank-statements.co

API-first conversion with broad international bank coverage, aimed at developers and platforms rather than at bookkeepers.

Suits you if: Choose bank-statements.co if you are integrating statement conversion into software you are building, or if your banks are outside the majors and their coverage list includes yours.

Where we fit

Choose us if you want the arithmetic checked as well as the conversion done, work across more than one machine, or convert enough that per-page pricing wins.

Digital statements never leave your browser either

This is the comparison most people get wrong. A statement with a text layer — what your bank gives you when you download one — is read entirely in your browser here. Nothing is uploaded. Only a scanned statement, which has no text to read, is sent to a server, and the interface says so and asks first. So the privacy gap against desktop software is narrower than it looks.

Nothing to install, on any machine

No install, no per-machine licence, no Windows-only build. It works on whatever you are sitting at, including a client’s office.

Reconciliation built in

A converter that only converts leaves the checking to you. Every row here is checked against the statement’s running balance, and the ones that do not add up are flagged at the row with the source line shown.

We are new. DocuClipper and ProperSoft have been doing this for years and have the reviews to show for it; we do not. What we can offer instead of a track record is a free tier big enough to test on your own statements — three pages a day without an account, ten a month with one — and a product that tells you when it is unsure rather than presenting every conversion as finished.

How this page was researched

Everything here about other tools was read from their own public pricing and marketing pages in September 2026. We did not create accounts, so nothing on this page claims anything about their accuracy, their output quality or their support — only about what they publish. Prices change; check theirs before deciding.
