Why is a card statement harder to convert than a bank statement?

No running balance column. On a bank statement each row can be checked against the one above it, which isolates an error to a single row. Card statements only give you the totals at the bottom, so an error can be detected but not located as precisely.

Are payments and purchases separated correctly?

Yes. Direction comes from the debit and credit columns, or from the sign markers on the value — CR/DR suffixes, parentheses, trailing minus. We never guess direction from words in the description, because "payment received" and "payment sent" both contain "payment".

Will foreign currency transactions come through?

The billed amount does. Original-currency detail printed on a second line is merged into the description rather than dropped.
