Convert a TD Bank statement to Excel, CSV or QuickBooks
TD operates on both sides of the border under one brand, and the statements are not the same document. The difference matters most in the date column, where getting it wrong is silent.
Covers TD Convenience Checking, TD Business Simple Checking, TD Cash and Double Up cards.

TD Bank and TD Canada Trust are two banks wearing one logo
TD Bank, N.A. is the US retail bank; TD Canada Trust is the Canadian one. They share a parent, a brand and a very similar statement design, and they are separate institutions issuing separate documents in separate currencies. Nobody else on this list has that problem, and it produces two failures that both look like something else. The first is the date column, where US and Canadian conventions differ and a value like 03/04 is valid either way — so a misread shifts about forty per cent of the rows into the wrong month with no error raised. The second is the account: a TD Canada Trust statement in CAD imported against a TD Bank account in USD produces a reconciliation that is wrong by the exchange rate and looks, at a glance, like a rounding problem. Check the entity name and the currency on the front page before converting a TD statement, particularly if you hold accounts on both sides of the border.
How a TD Bank statement is laid out
Worth checking against the statement in front of you — TD Bank issues more than one layout, and which you have changes what to look for after converting.
| Date format | MM/DD/YYYY on US statements. Canadian TD statements are not always the same order |
|---|---|
| Running balance | Present on checking statements |
| Amount columns | Separate debit and credit columns |
| Sections | Electronic deposits, electronic payments, other credits, other withdrawals, cheques paid |
| Currency | USD and CAD accounts exist under the same brand and look similar |
Downloaded activity and statements are not the same thing
Every large US bank offers two different exports, and people reach for the wrong one constantly. Downloadable account activity — CSV, and often QFX or OFX — covers a recent window, typically a few months, and stops. Statements are PDFs, are issued per period, and go back years. If you need last March, the activity export will not have it and the statement will; converting the PDF is how that gap is closed.
OFX for TD Bank
OFX states its dates unambiguously, which removes the ambiguity this bank is most likely to introduce.
Convert to OFXQuestions
- How do I tell a US TD statement from a Canadian one?
- The currency and the date order. Look for a day above the twelfth in the date column to settle the order, and check the currency before importing either way.
- Some rows imported and some were rejected as invalid dates. What happened?
- The date order is wrong. Days above the twelfth are impossible in the other reading and get rejected; days below it are read wrongly and accepted. A partial rejection means the accepted rows are suspect too.
- Does TD support Web Connect?
- Where it does, QBO is the better route for QuickBooks. Where it does not, OFX and CSV both work and neither needs a bank ID.
